Austin Fair

The last day my mom was here, we went to the fair. It was small but very sweet.

Freya wanted to ride all the rides and we had to convince Jonah he wouldn't die if he rode a ride. Once Freya is tall enough, I bet she will be the one riding them all!

We pet deer, say baby kangaroos and let some of the animals eat out of our hands. There was the mandatory long horn and we even ate biscuits made from a chuck wagon!

But I think the best part was watching the dare devils ride motorcycles. Freya asked me, "why are they doing this?" I told her, "because they are crazy."

Camping

This spring break we did a little camping with Grandma Birdie and the Simmons.

It was just under a 2 hour drive. We were well out of the city and could see tons of stars at night.

The day we arrived, the fire ban was lifted and we spent way too much money on fire wood. But being able to roast hot dogs and marshmallows over the fire was worth it.

We took a few hikes, drank too much wine/margaritas, the kids had fun playing in mud, which made me thankful we had showers. Kell took the kids fishing. We also saw lots of wildlife including frogs, rabbits, deer and armadillos!

On the way home we stopped by this awesome ice cream parlor and had a taste of civilization. The picture in the ice cream parlor was taken right after Freya lost her entire scoop of ice cream. So sad, but I took her over to the counter with her tear-filled-puppy-dog eyes and she got a refill in her cone. Really who can resist those eyes?

We were pooped out by the leisurely camping that we did.

SXSW kid style

We went with Bethany and her boys down to South Congress to listen to a bit of live music during SXSW.

The big kids had fun watching adults put on crazy performances. And the little kids had fun screaming as loud as they could. It was amazing to them that when they screamed, no one could hear them!

There were a few bands that were good but we really dug Snake and Jet's Amazing Bullit Band They put on a good show.

Oh and hey little Bro, I sent it home on vinyl with mom just for you.

Hoe Down Part Dosado

Dosado (also written do-sa-do) or Dos-a-dos (also written dos a dos) or do-si-do (also written do si do) is a basic dance step in such dances as square dance, contra dance, polka, various historical dances, and some reels.

Chloe had tons of fun dancing it up yesterday. Her partner was so cute and really got into it.

Chloe has been sick all week and her partner was so worried she would miss the hoe down. He didn't want to be stuck dancing with a five-foot 5th grader or a boy!

And Chloe was so worried she would forget the moves since she missed so many of the practices. I told her to just keep going, smile and think of what comes next if she gets a little lost. It's just for fun, don't worry if you forgot a move.

She amazed me and didn't forget a step!

It's a Hoe Down!

We're not in Oregon any more......

Jonah has been dreading this day for weeks. Both he and his partner came to me after school last week with their heads down and asked if they could be sick for the Hoe Down.

They don't seem to enjoy it, especially with all the parents taking so many darn pictures. And they were forced to hold hands on top of the whole thing. What we put the kids though!

The school nurse has been known to give "cootie shots" to the kids before the Hoe Down. I guess this way they have no excuses as to why they can't promenade with their partner.

Do you see the faces Jonah is making?

Chloe on the other hand had fun. She was laughing, smiling and didn't seem to mind dancing at all. Her partner knew every move, he was a character.
Here is Jonah doing his dance:

The 4th grade went on a field trip last week. They went to the Texas Natural Science Center. Lots to see and learn and best of all, it's free!

McKinney Falls

This is a fabulous place to spend the day. Perfect for the day trip or even afternoon trip. We went for a hike and saw the biggest tree in Texas, I swear! Then sat under what they call the rock shelter.

There was a family turtles that caught Raita's eye while we were walking.

Suki had fun but she needs to learn to be calm on the leash. She would rather run with the kids, so I'm constantly telling her settle down and be still while she struggles to be with them. I hope she grows up soon!

Raita and Jonah had fun jumping over the grooves in the rock that the river formed. Look at that picture of Jonah, it is almost as if he is flying.

I always freak out when Raita does daring things with Jonah. I guess that is the job of the mother though. Biting nails, forever, infinity.
